i have been studying with jehovah's witnesses for approximately two years.
initially, i liked the studies and felt that i was growing closer to god.
however, as the studies progressed, they seemed to become increasingly negative and i did not like what i was being taught.
You don't have to tell them to go away. You can ask them a question they don't like the answer to, then insist that they answer it without morphing the question into another question they would rather answer. If you spot them using dishonesty to weasel their way out of answering your question, give them a guilt trip for it.
Do this until they either leave the JWs, or until they leave you alone.

i've been having a conversation with a young jw on twitter and have, once again, come up against beliefs that do not match up with official watchtower doctrine.
if you like you can read the full thread here (you'll need to click on some comments to open it all up).. anyway the upshot is that this jw, and many like her, believe that only truly wicked people will be killed at armageddon - not innocent babies and children or anyone who "didn't know better" perhaps because they didn't get a witness.
it's as though they cannot accept the obvious injustice of jehovah's morality.. this jw teenager believes that all these non-jw's who survive armageddon will get their chance to prove their loyalty during the 1000 year reign of christ - again, not a watchtower teaching.. i don't really have a question to ask, this is just an observation.
If they try to pull the 'old light' card, I ask them for a published article that rescinds it, having been careful not to choose a subject that has one.

Backed into a corner, my JWs will look me in the eyes and lie their aces off to pretend that doctrines they are uncomfortable with were never taught, or that we 'don't teach that any more!'
i helped, unfortunately, many people to become baptized jws.
recently, over the last few years, i saw many of my students who were still “ in the truth “ lament that i was no longer associating or active in the faith.. i do feel bad that i did such a good job that most of them still are in the cult.. are your teachers still around or did they wise up and leave the lord’s organization?

They all died of old age without seeing me get 'The Truth'. They were expecting to be part of The Great Crowd and had to watch that promise never come into their reach,

It's better to be knowing how to direct them to their own literature from their own website or WTLib on their own hard drive and what questions to ask about problems with that.

Try searching the site for keywords, e,g, site:sec.gov/ watchtower
in another corner of the internet someone stated that witnesses are proclaiming that this system will be no more than 40 years now... that "gog of magog" will start the great tribulation.
can anyone confirm this latest "prediction"?.
If a JW makes any sort of outrageous statement, make them promise to back it up, promising a time and place when they will do it.
When they 'forget', take a Worldly audience with you when you go to remind them of their promise.
january 29th - my baptism date.
can you remember how you felt at your baptism?.
i got baptised because my dad kept frightening me.
I'm about your age, Phoebe, so got the same lecture from my Dad, but I knew that the Ancient Worthies hadn't shown up in 1925 so their track record wasn't squeaky clean. I also knew that leaving without getting shunned was unlikely so baptism didn't look all that inviting.
Deciding to get baptised was the best decision I never made. I'm not shunned by any JW family members. Relationships are stunted and are not what they should be and I'm careful what I say around them but, because I'm unbaptised, I do have some semblance of a normal relationship with my JW family and old JW friends even though I haven't been in a KH except for weddings and funerals since the 1975 debacle.
have you ever heard of a jw minor getting disfellowshipped and their parents then throwing them out of home?
i know of 1, 14yr old, df'd for smoking and the very same night it was annoced his mother kicked him out of the family home on to the streets!.
unsurprisingly as an adult he's never returned to his mother or the wt .
Any Dub who does that has gone beyond what is written in their litteratrash and should be challenged to provide official WT documentation that supports their actions.
